Best Time to Travel to Cancun

Do you know when the best time to travel to Cancun is? Well, any day is a good day for a beach escape, but a Cancun vacation could be more than perfect during some specific months.

When travelers want to visit Cancun, some of the most important things they consider are the weather and their budget.

First of all, you have to remember that Cancun is a tropical destination. In tropical areas, the weather is very hot, humid, and sometimes rainy. That is why when you try to get a weather forecast for Cancun, it will always show high rain probabilities. Don’t panic! It is normal to have 5-minute rains during the day. It could be a sunny day, and from one minute to another, it could be raining in some spots of the city, and 3 minutes later, the sun is shining bright again. That is Cancun!

However, there are seasons with better weather and fewer rain probabilities. We will share some relevant information about traveling to Cancun during different seasons in this post.

When is the best time to travel to Cancun?

Traveling to Cancun during Winter – From December 21st to March 19th

Is Winter a good time to go to Cancun?

Winter is a great season to visit Cancun if you are looking to avoid the cold temperatures at home. The weather is excellent at this time of the year because it is not that hot, so you don’t feel like melting every time you leave the hotel room. It is a great time to go out and discover all the adventures that the Riviera Maya has to offer.

The thermometer rarely goes less than 60*, which is cold for some people, but it is the perfect climate for others. The weather could be chilly at night, so it is a good idea to pack a light jacket. Sometimes it rains a little, but it never spoils your plans. The sea’s temperature gets colder, so it hinders the formation of hurricanes… Bye-bye, Hurricane Season!

Kids from the region and other places are on vacation, and it may be a little crowded because families from different parts come to visit. The high season starts during Christmas, and you will probably find the highest prices of the year during this season. The high levels of occupancy remain until the middle of Spring.

Traveling to Cancun during Spring – From March 20th to June 19th

Is Spring a good time to visit Cancun?

It is a great season to visit Cancun! And if you travel during May, it would be even better because you will have nice weather, reasonable prices, and best of all, spring break crowds will be already gone!

The weather is usually sunny and partly cloudy and windy with occasional 5-minute rains, but overall it is great! The temperature goes from 73.4* F to 87.8* F, which is hot but very enjoyable. One part of the season matches the Easter vacations and the spring break, so it can be crowded and prices are higher.

After Spring break, there is a low season from mid-April through May. During these months there are fewer rainy days and fewer people! You can go on a snorkeling tour, visit a theme-park like Xcaret or Xel Há or visit some Mayan ruins with perfect and enjoyable weather. This is also a great time to take a boat trip or visit Isla Mujeres. You can find some special deals during this time.

Traveling to Cancun during Summer – From June 20th to September 21st

Is Summer a good time to visit Cancun?

In summer, the weather may vary from month to month. For example, it is not too hot in June, as the thermometer can stay no more than 87.8*F. But it can go up to 93.2*F in August, and due to the high humidity, the “feel like temperature” is another 15 to 20 degrees more. So, if you want a great tan, this is the perfect season! However, Some people are not used to these temperatures; please hydrate yourself and don’t forget to apply your sunblock several times during the day. Preferably, use biodegradable products.

Schools’ Summer break in Mexico and other countries starts at the end of June. Flights, hotels, and attractions rates may increase due to the high season.

On the other hand, the lowest season of the year is during September. You could find great deals, but also you have to consider that rains begin to be more frequent during this month.
